  • Cheapest NYC Tour Ever

Want to know the cheapest way for a tour around NYC? Okay, are you ready for this? The public NYC buses. No, I'm actually being serious.

Why spend $40+ dollars when you can spend $7 metro card for a full day pass and get on all the city buses. Sure, you won't know what you're looking at or where you're going but how can you go wrong with $7?

It's practically the same thing except there's no open roof so you won't be able to look cool and wave to people on the street while taking pictures and there won't be anyone to tell you what you're looking at.

The traffic is so horrendous in the city that you'll stay on one block for at least 2- 3 minutes so you'll have time to observe the same block like 5 times.

    What you'll need:
    • Common sense
    • A bus map
    • City guide

I would recommend taking the Crosstown bus, M42. It runs from FDR Drive to Javits Center (it's kind of a long stretch). It's a lot more beautiful at night in Times Square.

The only bad thing about taking the city bus is probably not being able to take pictures, (they'll come out shitty anyway and you can always buy post cards) and being on a bus with locals. Try your best NOT to get on the bus during rush hours. That's always a bitch.

If you get lost: Look for someone who doesn't look like a tourist and without an accent.

(I thought about this while taking the Crosstown bus to from 3rd Avenue to 10th Avenue. But I encourage you to go try this. Just don't blame me if you get lost.)

Have you ever taken public transportation when traveling to other cities or countries?  If not, what did you use?  Which made your experience better?
