"I Live Here But I've Never Seen the Sights."
Guest post submitted by manishmathur
Something that I've noticed is that when I visit cities, I usually go straight to the main tourist attractions. But people who live there never get around to visiting the attractions.
Even when my family and I go to India, we always go to our family's house and it wasn't until two years ago, my sixth trip to India, that we saw the Taj Mahal.
Have you been to the "hot spots" in your area? What are they?

I would not know what are our hot spots in the city where I live in the United Kingdom.
I have seen most of the city where I live.
I live in VA and I'm pretty sure there aren't any hotspots here except mygirlfriend's house.
I've been to the hot spots but I don't really go very often... my hometowns are a small but historic town in NJ, and Hong Kong
I've been pretty much everywhere in my town, so I've seen the hotspots. There's the museum, the park, the unique restaurants and the inn and spa. Not very much, it's a pretty small town.
hahaha Same here. I live in New York yet tourists always hit the spots before I do. The Statue of Liberty. Empire State Building (I've passed by it when I go shopping but I don't think that counts LOL). Rockefeller Center. etc. I've never been to these places. I guess it's because you know that it will always be there and you are so close to it so there is no point in rushing to get all the sight seeing down.
I went to the Golden Gate Bridge? (x & I always go to Chinatown. What else, what else. Uhm ... I can't think of anything else.
I don't really go to the hotspots in Toronto unless out-of-town family comes to visit. Well, unless you count Eaton Centre!
Here in British Columbia, many of the "hot spots" are ski hills. And since I don't ski or snowboard, I haven't really taken advantage of our local amenities!
Hahah, I think this happens with a lot of people
But in my case, my office is situated right next to the most famous "hot spot" in my city. Thus, OF COURSE I have visited it!
I've been to a few, but never like the Empire State Building.
But I used to go to the WTC, I've been to Rockefeller, and the Statue of Liberty, but I try to avoid most of those areas.
you made a really good point. it's so true and sad that locals never see the hot spots of their own city. :/ tourists/visitors always "surprise" me when they say they're excited to visit a certain place/statue/street/etc. there have been times when i've silently asked myself, "we have that? since when?"
It's so true! I realized this a while back when a friend of mine visited from California and wanted to see some real tourist spots in Dallas and Fort Worth. I was clueless! We were able to take her to the Fort Worth Stockyards (which I had been to before, but never appreciated as a touristy spot) and some other random fun hot spots.
CN Tower, Niagara Falls, Royal Ontario Museum.. yup yup yup
lol yeah. I live in New York City and... 99 pecent of my friends(including me) have never actually been to the statue of liberty, or the empire state building, or... the twin towers(before it was blown into smithereens), or... hmm. what else?
lol I think thats it.
I've been to some of the hot spots in Detroit (such as the Detroit Symphony Opera, a Tiger's game, the Henry Ford Museum, the Auto Show, and Greektown), but not all of them. I'd love to see a Red Wings game sometime, and I have plans to go to the Detroit Institute of the Arts today to see their "Monet to Dali" exhibit.
I live in Austin. I've been to the capital, all the parks, most clubs... And I guess those are the hot spots to hit up.
I live in greater Boston (in Massachusetts) and I haven't seen most of the tourist attractions except on field trips. I don't know what Cheers is, I've never been to a Red Sox game, etc. The only time I really see the famous buildings is on my way to other places.
My town is famous for being the quilting capital of the united states. its quite popular with little old ladies, who flock here during our annual quilt show, which I've never attended. I've also never been to our quilt museum.
there's also a lake nearby, which I do visit occasionally.
Im stationed at Fort Drum Ny, When i got my orders all i could think of was NYC and Boston!!! Getting ready to deploy and i havnt been to either...kinda blah..but military keeps you so busy
I live near Cleveland, Ohio. I only know of the Rock hall. I don't even know if there are other tourist attractions.
This is so true. Last year when my friend came to visit me in toronto, I had to do some research for places to bring her because I have not been to most of them!
I live near Palm Springs California, and everyone who's not from here always wants to visit. I don't understand. It's not luxurious, and I don't understand why rich people take trips here.
@PurdeeGem@xanga - hahaha the same happens to me.
Lol are there even tourist sites in Pittsburgh? I wouldn't even know. Maybe I've been there if they exist, probably not.
I know a lot of people know about Primanti Brothers', but I think their food is greasy so I've never been there :)
I live about 30 minutes outside of Washington DC, so whenever anyone comes to visit - they insist on seeing all the monuments and museums. Very touristy.
