by Anne Have you been dying to go to South America, but not sure where to go? I definitely recommend making a visit to Machu Picchu some time during your life. This hidden empire is set high above the mountains in the Urumba Valley northwest of the city of Cusco in Peru.
It was so well-hidden that the city was never conquered by the Spanish during their take-over of the Incan Empire.
To get to Machu Picchu, you'll fly to the city of Cusco in Peru. And from the Urumba Valley, you can either take a 2-4 day treck to the site of Machu Picchu by the ancient Inca Trail or take a train. Due to the fact that I visited during a season when the Inca Trail was closed, I went up by train. I chose to visit Machu Picchu early in the morning before the sun rose. When the clouds finally parted, I was amazed to see this city open up in front of my eyes. Whether you're a spiritual person or not, you can't help but feel that this place is truly special and sacred.
Have you been to Machu Picchu? What did you think of its design and how did you feel about this hidden empire? If you haven't been to Machu Picchu, do you plan on visiting?

Yes, go there so you can walk all over a fragile, ancient, one-of-a-kind city, contributing to its deterioration and quick demise!Â
Machu Picchu is breathtaking and tranquil. Out of all the wonders of the world, it's the only one that's situated away from everything, which I think makes it very unique.
@methodElevated@xanga - I feel that Machu Picchu is much better protected than many of the other wonders of the world. Also, you pay entrance fees to see places like this and some part (one would hope all of it) of that money goes to help preserve these treasures.
To be honest, "Tripcrazed" sounds like a blogsite for clubbers and ravers.
I'm not being negative, that's genuinely what it sounds like to me. It could just be me, though.
@ClockworkBunny@xanga - LOL, that's what I thought!
I'm sorry, Xanga, but 9 is going just a little too far...
@HeartOfPandora@xanga - What's the difference between 6 sites and 9?
@dan@xanga - I just think it's getting too...stretched out. Revelife was cool, and Momaroo wasn't bad (Hoodstars just creeped me out) but I feel like Xanga isn't really Xanga now. It's not a place where we can all come together anymore; why talk about your low self-esteem and emo-tastic life on Xanga when you can talk with a thousand other people with the same issues on Lovelyish? I'd like to say that almost all of the people on those other sites also have a Xanga account, and that means the community isn't growing it's just dividing and spreading out.
I mean, these sites are a nice resource sometimes, I just feel like it's too much...
I want to go, but no $$
I support the idea of satellite sites if- IF- it really does increase traffic.
I guess my opinion of all this is that in the end, Xanga may remain Xanga, and the satellite sites may eventually develop their own communities. Which wouldn't be a bad thing... especially if those communities are composed of people who normally wouldn't talk to people on the 'net. On a site with a focus, they can easily share interests with total strangers. Not so easy a thing to do on Xanga.
Xanga will probably always be the wild, random community where anyone can fit in because none of us has a blogging mission statement. XD
@dan@xanga - To be honest, I wouldn't mind 12 sites, as long as there weren't more than three of them on Xanga's featured weblogs at once, and we had one solely for comedy. I could deal with that.
I wish I could go there.
@ClockworkBunny@xanga - HAHAHA yeah....
